There’s a myriad of nutrients and anti-oxidant in fruits and vegetables that can feed your skin and bring out the glow in your face.
I, personally, think juicing is one of the easiest ways to get a daily dose of pure nutrition and fight free radicals (and other toxins) that age us prematurely.
Below are 9 powerful juices that promote vibrant and radiant skin:
1. Apple Juice:
‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’ – this is a very popular phrase; but did you know that apple not only helps in keeping you healthy, but it also helps in providing you flawless and glowing skin? Apple juice contains antioxidants, such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and phenols present that play a major in delaying premature ageing.
The anti-oxidants also help help repair damage to cellular walls, caused by stress; this improves your complexion by nourishing and healing the skin from deep within and aids in keeping the derma firm.
So, now we can safely say that ‘an apple a day keeps the dermatologist away’! This is definitely the best juice for glowing skin.
2. Papaya Juice:
Papayas are not only rich in antioxidants but also contain the enzyme papain. Papain helps in curing skin impurities and keeps your skin soft and supple. The alpha hydroxyl acids in the fruit helps to dissolve dead skin cells to prevent signs of ageing, such as wrinkles and fine lines. In addition the vitamins E in papaya rejuvenate your skin to help you enjoy younger-looking skin.
3. Cucumber Juice:
The silica in Cucumbers is an essential component of healthy connective tissue and is often recommended to improve the complexion and health of the skin. Plus cucumbers have an extremely high water content (they are 96% water) which makes them naturally hydrating – a must for glowing skin.
4. Lemon Juice:
I don’t think I need to tell you that Lemons are rich in vitamin C! And I am sure you know that Vitamin C is a key ingredient to keeping your skin glowing and youthful. This powerful antioxidant is an essential ingredient needed by our bodies in order to synthase collagen and its key in fight against free radicals!
Lemon Juice also has an alkalising effect on the body – I know its acid before you drink it but when it is metabolised it actually turns to an alkaline! This has a hugely positive affect on your body as it helps to balance the pH levels of your body, flush toxins, increase metabolism and increase your energy levels.
The benefits of drinking lemon juice, especially in the morning, are endless and worthy of a post all on its own!
5. Carrot Juice:
Carrot juice is an awesome source of beta-carotene, which is converted into vitamin A in your liver. Vitamin A acts as an antioxidant to cell damage done to the body through regular metabolism and helps slows down the ageing of cells, prevent acne and evens out skin tone and pigmentation. In addition Vitamin A helps to protects the skin from sun damage – the no.1 cause of premature ageing!
Kale and its family of powerful leafy green vegetables (spinach etc) are packed with goodness – but can add quite a strong flavour to a juice if you are not used to it.
Kale and spinach are nutritional very similar and are incredibly effective anti-inflammatory foods. They are an excellent source of nutrition, including vitamins A, C, K, E, B1, B2, B3, calcium, beta-carotene, phosphorous, iron, copper, magnesium, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and the carotenoid lutein. The vitamin A content promotes the repair and maintenance of the skin, and the omega-3 fatty acids add to its anti-inflammatory properties.
Finally the dark leafy greens are good at helping help clean out the colon and hasten waste movement. As such releasing toxins from the body that may disrupt your glow!
7. Tomato Juice:
Applying tomato paste on skin helps in removing blackheads, acne and other skin problems. But it’s more beneficial if you drink tomato juice daily.
Tomato Juice contains lycopene, which is widely considered the most potent antioxidant of the carotenoid. The benefits of carotenoids include helping to protect skin against sun damage and inhibiting the activity of enzymes involved in the breakdown of collagen. And we all want lots of collagen as it’s responsible for ensuring the firmness and elasticity of your skin and prevents wrinkling!
As we know our bodies react to sugars etc by creating enzymes that cause inflammation which in turn reduces the effectiveness of your elastin and collagen (the proteins in your skin that gives it a younger plump look). Unfortunately the quality of your collagen is reduced and it becomes more brittle. Consequently, your skin breaks down and looks thinner and more wrinkly.
Luckily Ginger has pharmacological properties of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and helps to prevent this damage.
9. Beet Root Juice:
Beet roots are particularly nutrient rich and their juice helps in giving you flawless skin as it contains the goodness of vitamin A, C and K. It is also rich in iron, copper and potassium which reduce blemishes and marks. Drinking this juice every day helps in prevention and cure of inflammations, which eventually gives you glowing skin. If that’s not enough, beets also have folate and carotenoids, which increase blood flow to the skin, and lycopene, an antioxidant that maintains elasticity and stops sagging.
Why splurge on expensive anti-ageing and skin care products when you have the fruitful bounty of nature at your disposal? I love making tasty combinations but as I’m sure you’ve seen on my instagram Green Juices are always my favourite.
However, today I’m pushing the boat out and I’ve gone Pink! I usually don’t like Beet root but it was delicious so maybe this is a new beginning….
